Module Description

Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) has long been recognized as being central to achieving good glucose control. Global standardization has enabled national and international guidelines to be established. This has resulted in agreed targets for glycemic control, but probably the greatest development following standardization is the World Health Organization (WHO) accepting HbA1c as a diagnostic test for the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain an overall understanding of the importance of diagnosing diabetes early.

  • Learn about the utility of glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) measurements to manage diabetes.

  • Learn about the influence of COVID-19 on patients with diabetes.
